Roberto Bernardi
Biography
Roberto Bernardi (b. 1974, Todi, Italy) is an internationally acclaimed hyperrealist artist whose work explores perception, desire, and contemporary visual culture through an extraordinary command of technique. Trained in traditional painting and restoration, Bernardi developed an early obsession with detail, surface, and light, elements that remain central to his practice. After initial explorations of landscape and portraiture, he turned toward Hyperrealism, transforming familiar objects into highly charged visual icons. His paintings, often depicting sweets, candies, and reflective materials, balance seduction and precision while subtly referencing the legacy of Pop Art.
Since his first solo exhibition in 1994, Bernardi has exhibited extensively in major art capitals including New York, London, Paris, Detroit, and Singapore, and has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions worldwide. His work has been included in major international Hyperrealism surveys, presented at institutions such as the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Kunsthal Rotterdam, New Orleans Museum of Art, and Tampa Museum of Art, among others.
In recent years, Bernardi has expanded his practice into sculpture, creating hyperrealist totemic works that translate his iconic imagery of sweets into three-dimensional form. These sculptures extend his exploration of scale, materiality, and visual desire, reinforcing the immersive and almost iconic presence of his subjects. Bernardi lives and works in Todi, Italy. His practice continues to redefine Hyperrealism as a dynamic and evolving language within contemporary art.
